Open ground vegetables in Volgograd fields already occupy 2,3 thousand hectares, according to the website of the Committee for Agriculture of the region. To date, sowing and planting seedlings of vegetable crops have begun in 10 districts of the region. Among them are Gorodishchensky, Bykovsky, Svetloyarsky, Sredneakhtubinsky, Leninsky, Kalachevsky, Dubovsky, Kamyshinsky, Novoanninsky, Ilovlinsky.
As of today, 1,5 thousand ha of onion, 568 ha of carrots, 156 ha of cabbage, 25 ha of tomato, 7,2 ha of red beet have been planted. Vegetable growers of the Leninsky and Sredneakhtubinsky districts planted 30 hectares of potatoes.
In total, in 2022, it is planned to cover 20 hectares with open ground vegetables, and 2,8 hectares with potatoes, which is the same as last year.
It should be noted that the Volgograd region is one of the three leading regions in the production of vegetables - for the last five years, the gross harvest has exceeded one million tons. Every fourth onion, fifth carrots and cucumbers produced in the territory of the Russian Federation are grown in this region.
Growth is largely due to the development of land reclamation - on the initiative of Governor Andrey Bocharov, the region was included in the pilot state program.
In addition, reliable points of sale for products are being formed in the region - first of all, these are new processing enterprises; and increasing storage capacity.
