As the National News Agency of Uzbekistan “UzA”, in the Tashkent region held a scientific and practical seminar "Technology of potato cultivation in areas freed from sowing."
The event was dedicated to the effective use of liberated land and the cultivation of vegetable products for the needs of the population.
Detailed information on the topic of the seminar was presented by the first deputy hokim of the Tashkent region on issues of agriculture and water management Botir Alimbekov. As noted, this year the region plans to grow potatoes on 18 thousand hectares, of which 6 thousand hectares fall on the main areas, 12 thousand hectares - land for re-planting. By the end of the year, 533,3 thousand tons are planned to be obtained from these areas, including 244 thousand tons of potatoes from the land for re-planting. This figure is 59 percent more than last year. All this is necessary to ensure food security in a pandemic.
Currently, for planting on 12 thousand hectares of land, 36,7 thousand tons of seed potatoes are required. The main part of the seed fund will be provided by farms and other agricultural enterprises, and the supply of the missing part of the seeds from Russia, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands will be carried out by three importing companies - SHUKRONA AFRO FAYZ LLC, BANANZA TRADE EXPORT and BAXTIYOR IDEAL BIZNES. The cost of seed potatoes is 192 billion soums. Part of these funds will be collected through a bank loan.
“This year we have developed a high-yielding variety of potatoes,” says Rustam Nizomov, director of the Research Institute of Vegetable Melons and Potatoes. - This will help meet the needs of the population for potatoes during the pandemic. In a number of districts of the Tashkent region will grow export varieties of potatoes. In this case, soil fertility and climatic conditions of the territories will be taken into account.
