According to fruit-inform.com, in October of this year, only 1/3 of all vegetables supplied to the market were local products.
In this context, producers are asking the authorities to restrict potato imports for at least two to three months, since they are able to cover the needs of domestic consumption. Moreover, during this period people make stocks for the winter, and manufacturers can offer them quality goods.
The head of the Potato Growers Association, Petru Iliev, argues that the massive import of potatoes was widely allowed two years ago, when there was a shortage of this product on the local market, and since then nothing has been done to restrict it. This, according to Iliev, negatively affected the quality of domestic potatoes.
According to the Association of Potato Growers, this year the sown area for potatoes is about 20 thousand hectares, and the potato harvest will reach 500 thousand tons.
