Rosselkhoznadzor employees ask Amur residents not to import potatoes for planting from other regions, and not to use seeds of unknown origin. And also - do not use ware potatoes as seed. Experts fear the spread of a dangerous quarantine organism on the territory of our region.
- The population actively uses imported potato varieties when planting. Along with tubers, soil particles, it is possible to import such a dangerous pathogen of potato disease as "brown rot". The crop losses caused by this disease are unpredictable, ”the Rosselkhoznadzor administration for the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Amur Region clarified.
With early infection of potatoes, tubers can be very small or not formed at all. With a later infection, the tubers look healthy outwardly, but the disease is detected the next year when they are planted in the field. These tubers form weak, rapidly wilting plants. Productivity is reduced to 40%, and during storage, losses reach 50% or more.
In order to be able to identify the foci of the disease in a timely manner, the population is asked to immediately inform the Rosselkhoznadzor department if they detect signs of potato infection.
