The Roskrakhmalpatok Association presented the interim results of the industry for the first half of 2019.
Over the six months of this year, the production of modified starches increased by 23% and the volumes of production of starch syrup increased by 5% compared to the same period last year. In the second quarter of this year, there was a slight decrease in the import and export of starch and its derivatives compared to the second quarter of 2018.
In addition to modified starches, the production of starch in the first half of 2019 in the Russian Federation amounted to 140 tons, which is 211,4 tons (or 4%) less than in the first half of 707,7.
More than half of the native starches produced in the central federal district (80 tons), in which the Tula region is the leader (073,6 tons).
In January-June 2019, the production of modified starches in the Russian Federation amounted to 22 tons, which is 652,9 tons (or 4248,3%) more than in January-June 23,1. Of these, 2018 12 tons were produced in the Rostov region. An increase in the production of modified starches is observed in several regions of Russia.
Oleg Radin, President of the Roskrakhmalpatok Association, comments: “In Ryazan, production growth is due to the full operation of the enterprise. In Rostov, the manufacturing company increased its capacity to 800 tons of grain processing per day, therefore, output also increased. In Stavropol, the company has expanded its network of customers, including foreign ones. In Kabardino-Balkaria last year, modified starch was not produced during this period. ”
The production of starch syrup for 6 months of 2019 in the Russian Federation amounted to 280 103,8 tons, which is 12950,3 tons (4,6%) more than in the same period of 2018. In June 2019, prices were at the level of 19 rubles / t. and increased by 076,5 rubles / ton compared with June 3. The bulk of molasses was produced in the Central Federal District (339,4 tons) in the Tula, Belgorod, Tambov and Ryazan regions.
The volume of dextrin production in the first half of 2019 in the Russian Federation amounted to 3 tons, which is 869 tons (or 844,3%) less than in the first half of 17,9. Almost all dextrins are made in the Oryol region (2018 3 tons).
Fructose and fructose syrup in Russia in January-June 2019 produced 82 tons, which is 907,1 tons (7188,9%) less than in January-June 8.
The main part of fructose and fructose syrups was produced in the Tula region (60 359 tons). In the second quarter of 2019, the volume of imports of starch products decreased compared to the same period last year. The volume of exports of starch and its derivatives has also decreased, when compared with the second quarter of 2018. “The decline in exports is due to Ukraine’s ban on the import of Russian products from the sanctions list, which included several domestic plants. The staff of the Roskrakhmalpatok association is working to restore export supplies to Ukraine through the trade representative of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, ”commented Oleg Radin.
According to the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, in the second quarter of 2019, the volume of imports amounted to 12 tons, which is 358,6 tons less than in the second quarter of last year.
The export volume for the second quarter of this year is 4 tons, which is 109,5 tons less than for this period of 1.
If we talk about specific data, in April-June 2019, 205,1 tons of wheat starch, 1321,2 tons of corn starch, 226,9 tons of potato starch were exported. Also, 444,1 tons of modified starches, 1460,9 tons of starch syrup, 56,5 tons of dextrins, 69,6 tons of glucose-fructose syrups were exported from Russia.
In monetary terms, the export volume amounted to 2,08 million US dollars, 0,44 million US dollars less than in the second quarter of last year. The main importing countries of starch products are Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan. In the second quarter of 2019, 288,1 tons of wheat starch, 465,7 tons of corn starch, 1287,5 tons of potato starch, 3,3 tons of cassava starch, 61,2 tons of rice starch were imported.
Also, modified starches - 1 tons, starch syrup - 255,7 tons, dextrins - 23,9 tons, glucose-fructose syrups - 106,6 tons were imported into the Russian Federation.
For the indicated period of 2019, the volume of imports in monetary terms amounted to 15,3 million US dollars, which is 2,31 million US dollars more than for the specified period last year. The main share is traditionally accounted for by modified starches (about 8,8 million US dollars). Starch and its processed products are brought to us mainly from France, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Italy, the United States and Thailand.
From the above numbers, we can draw the following conclusions. The volume of imports of starch products is almost four times the volume of exports. This situation on the market can be observed for a long time. Native starches and starch syrup are exported mainly for export to the CIS countries. Modified starches, which are imported from Western Europe, the USA and China, account for half of the import.
Domestic producers are also trying to satisfy the growing demand for modified starches. So, in Russia in the first half of 2019, the production of modified starches increased by 23%. Our country has the necessary raw materials and material resources to increase the production of starches and starch products. Demand for them exists both in the domestic and international markets.
