Scientists at the Bashkir Agrarian University have introduced new potato varieties resistant to decay. Root crops were grown on a virus-free basis, and the resulting culture is resistant to most pests and diseases.
«Here we plant potatoes for propagation, which has high productivity, resistance to diseases: cancer, late blight. As a result, we managed to patent three new varieties: Birsky has a high starch content, Alekseevsky has excellent adaptation to climatic conditions, and Elena has great taste. And most importantly, such potatoes do not rot“, - said the scientific leader of the project, professor of BGAU Rafael Ismagilov.
A healthy hybrid is grown in the laboratory, then tiny particles are cut from its young shoots and placed in a nutrient medium for a month. Only half of these plants germinate, which are then cloned. About three tons of planting material can be collected from each plant for three years. The plans of the BSAU employees to produce potatoes with a high content of vitamin C.
