In the midst of autumn, imported potatoes appeared in the stores of the country. The main reason is the lack of own quality products; potato farms have been hit hard by the drought this year.
Recall that for a long time the Republic was among the potato exporting countries, but in the first 7 months of 2021, the volume of supplies of goods abroad fell three times, domestic prices for it increased by 70%. This led to the fact that local entrepreneurs began to import potatoes from Russia and Ukraine and sell them at comparable prices.
Now wholesale prices for potatoes in Belarus are at the level of Russian ones and remain the highest in the region. For comparison, in Moldova, a kilogram of root crops is twice as cheap.
