Corteva Agriscience (NYSE: CTVA) has announced its intention to allocate $ 500 to create a Corteva Agriscience Climate Positive Challenge grant program to stimulate agricultural development with a positive climate impact. A grant program will be launched next year to reward efforts to neutralize carbon emissions and protect the environment while supporting farms and farmers.
Project grants provide financial rewards to farmers who are already promoting innovative practices that have a positive impact on the climate, to collaborate with local environmental groups, universities, producers and other actors in the agricultural value chain to help expand their efforts beyond their own fields.
“We understand the challenges facing farmers around the world regarding trade, politics and weather challenges,” said Jim Collins, CEO of Corteva Agriscience. “It is these reasons that are the main drivers for announcing this decision, in order to stimulate those farmers who seek to scale their practices.”
Collins first introduced a climate-friendly agriculture concept at last year's World Food Prize (World Food Prize). Since then, the company has held meetings with farmers and organizations representing all sectors of agriculture and food production and playing an important role in promoting sustainable practices. The discussions allowed us to determine what exactly is needed to create carbon-free agriculture with a positive impact on climate around the world.
“Undoubtedly, we have a desire for cooperation in order to find the best solutions for the most key challenges of our life,” Collins said. Corteva is already working to create a system of market financial incentives for farmers. The company’s subsidiary, Granular, is partnering with Nori, a leading carbon dioxide marketplace. The site connects buyers of carbon residues with farmers using sustainable agricultural practices and provides them with a stable credit market that will generate income.
“This is just the beginning,” Collins said. "We can do more if we work together."
