The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), within the framework of a project funded by the European Union, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, organized trainings on the introduction of advanced potato growing technologies, fertilization methods and the development of irrigation systems.
Members of farmers' cooperatives in Shahristan and Nurabad districts targeted 80 tonnes of Red Scarlett high-yield seed potatoes in early May to create seed potato funds and improve food security for the rural population.
The head of the EU delegation, Ambassador Yosefson, noted that “increasing agricultural productivity often depends on efficient technologies. The use of fertilizers, quality seed material and the introduction of irrigation - all these measures will contribute to obtaining high yields. The transfer of knowledge and skills related to potato production to small farmers is a very timely step and will lead to an increase in the standard of living of the rural population. ”
