Sergey Lupekhin, chairman of the Union of Potato and Vegetable Market Participants, said that small and medium-sized producers may leave the market next season. This may be due to rising prices for fertilizers, seeds and machinery. Large companies will not be able to replace them in a short time. The chairman of the union believes that it will be more profitable for farmers to deal not with potatoes and vegetables in open ground, but, for example, with cereals or oilseeds, since prices have increased significantly. In addition, the market situation may worsen due to the growth of imports.
Director of the Department for Regulation of Agro-Industrial Complex Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture Maxim Titov said that the department plans to develop a federal project to develop the production of potatoes and vegetables. This document will provide for the main measures of state support for these industries, including "per hectare", reclamation measures, the construction of potato and vegetable stores and other measures.
In 2022, it is planned to allocate an additional 5 billion rubles to support vegetable growing. Also, an increase in funding for these industries is envisaged in 2023-2024. All these measures in the short term will increase the production of potatoes and vegetables in the organized sector by 15%.
