This follows from the analysis of Eurostat data for the period from 2011 to 2019, carried out by the Italian non-profit organization Coldiretti.
The report also indicates that the number of agri-food products from non-EU countries with irregular chemical residues is 5,6% compared to the EU average of 1,3% and only 0,9% of Italy. Data are based on a sample of 96 food samples marketed in the European Union.
“Faced with these results, it is imperative to move towards the transparency of the obligation to indicate the origin of the product on the label, from meat to milk, fresh fruits and vegetables to canned tomatoes, cheeses and sausages, even if it is not yet possible to know the origin of products such as juiced fruits. and jams, canned vegetables and legumes, or sugar, ”the association explains.
