A threefold decrease in precipitation and an increase in air temperature in July led to a drought and a loss of 40% of the potato and vegetable crop, the press service of the Primorsky Territory told TASS. At the same time, this weather contributes to the harvesting of grain with savings in drying costs.
“On the territory of the region in 2021, precipitation in July is 2,5-3 times lower than the norm, with a temperature background of 4-7 degrees higher than the average annual, which led to soil drought and drying out of the topsoil. Losses in the yield of vegetables, potatoes, fodder crops on stony soils reach 40%, ”the press service said.
At the same time, such weather, according to farmers, favors harvesting grain with minimal losses and savings on drying. 56% of the plan has already been completed.
“18,3 thousand tons of oats, barley - 14,4 thousand tons, wheat - almost 11 thousand tons were threshed,” the press service quotes the words of the Minister of Agriculture of Primorye Andrey Bronts.
Most of the grain was harvested by the agrarians of the Chernigov, Kirov and Khorolsky districts.
