On June 21, in the Kamyzyaksky district, on the experimental field of VNIIOB, a two-day workshop "Prospective Potato Varieties for the Lower Volga Region" ended.
The word is Tamara Vasilyevna Boyeva, Ph.D. in Agriculture, senior researcher at the Department of Agrotechnologies and Land Reclamation VNIIOB - a branch of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution PAFSC RAS, director of Seeda LLC:
- In recent years, in the Astrakhan region, there is a clear tendency to increase the area under potatoes, in 2018 they amounted to 12,1 thousand hectares, 330 thousand tons of potatoes were produced. Today, the region is a leader in the development of potato growing, including in farm production. In the Astrakhan region, thanks to irrigation and correctly selected varieties, the average yield was 29,5 t / ha, which is higher than the national average. Advanced farms consistently receive 40-45 t / ha. More than 150 thousand tons are sold outside the region. Further development of potato growing in the Astrakhan region should be based, first of all, on the basis of promising varieties and high-quality seed material. The priority area in the region is the production of early potatoes. In recent years, there has been an increase in the area under its plantings, in 2019 they make up more than 7 thousand hectares. Particular attention is paid to testing new promising varieties of potatoes. It is the variety as one of the main elements of innovative technology that allows to improve agricultural production and increase its profitability due to high productivity, marketability and product quality. Moreover, an effective return on the variety can only be obtained by cultivation in optimal soil and climatic conditions that are most consistent with its genotypic characteristics.
In 2019, Astrakhan scientists on the basis of the Department of Agricultural Technologies and Land Reclamation VNIIOB - a branch of the FSBIU "PAFSC RAS", under the guidance of Dr. S.-kh. sciences, professors Bayrambekova Sh.B. tested 43 varieties of potatoes of domestic and foreign selection of domestic seed companies producing potato seed material. Studies are conducted on the basis of peasant farms A.A. Prelova (Kamyzyak city), A.V. Krynina (Kharabalinsky district) and “Azalea” (headed by R. G. Baitemirov, Limansky district) held a scientific and practical seminar on the topic “Promising Potato Varieties for the Lower Volga Region”. The seminar was attended by the breeders of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution VNIIKH named after A.G. Lorha (Moscow), representatives of the North Caucasus Center for Original Potato Seed Production LLC FAT-AGRO LLC (Republic of North Ossetia-Alania), Experimental Greenhouse Plant Meristemnye Kultury LLC (Kislovodsk), breeding and genetic center Doc-gen technologies ”(Moscow region), scientists from Moscow, Kostroma, St. Petersburg, specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Astrakhan region, agricultural department AMO“ Kamyzyaksky District ”, leading agricultural producers and potatoes of the region, scientists of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution "Scientific Center for Scientific and Applied Problems of RAS".
Seminar participants discussed the prospects for the innovative development of commodity production of potatoes in the framework of the state policy of import substitution and general trends in the development of the potato industry in the Russian Federation, examined the impact of foreign trends on the Russian market, analyzed the experience of European colleagues, new methods of potato production technologies. Seminar participants praised the seminar.
Work in the regions to test varieties will allow producers to make the right choice, minimize production risks. Producers of the Astrakhan region praised the varieties of potatoes Udacha, Impala, Red Scarlett, the seed of which was produced in North Ossetia-Alania by FAT-AGRO LLC. I would also like to note the high quality of the seed material of the Impala, Red Scarlett and Laton potato varieties produced in Kislovodsk by Meristemnye Kultury LLC. Of particular interest to the manufacturers were also the varieties La Strada, Kinsemen, Doka-2, Gala, 172/24 (LLC DOCA Genetic Technologies), Gulliver, Ariel, Comet, Mirage, created by breeders of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution VNIIKKh named after A.G. Lorha. Potato breeding lines were tested in our climatic conditions. In the future there is the prospect of creating new varieties of potatoes specifically for the conditions of the Astrakhan region.
The problem of providing domestic large and small producers of seed and table potatoes with quality planting material is very relevant and requires an early solution. Currently, it is necessary to conduct seed production of potatoes on a virus-free basis. The cultivation of elite potatoes on a virus-free basis using the new technology of microclonal propagation of promising domestic and foreign varieties is the leading direction in obtaining potato seed material.
