According to EastFruit, at the end of the past week, last year's potatoes and carrots increased in price in Russia and Poland. An increase in prices was also recorded in Moldova (in the segment of potatoes of the 2018 harvest) and Ukraine (in the segment of last year's carrots). At the same time, last year's carrots fell in price in Georgia.
As for the segment of early production, Tajik farmers reported the start of active deliveries of potatoes of a new crop. Meanwhile, in Russia the price of early potatoes fell slightly, and representatives of wholesale companies announced a significant increase in imports of early carrots from Israel.
Last year's potato
Last week, prices for last year's potatoes in all countries of the project monitoring did not decrease. Moreover, in three of them a positive price dynamics was recorded. So, the participants of the produce market of Russia continued to complain about the rapid decline in stocks of quality products, with the result that the average price rose to 20 cents per kg. Similar trends were recorded in Moldova и Poland, where weekly prices rose 18% and 7%, respectively. Moreover, it is worth noting that the positive price dynamics in these three markets has been clearly tracked since late March - early April of this year.
Meanwhile in Ukraine, after rising a week earlier, the situation has relatively stabilized, and sellers rarely resorted to price adjustments. Georgia still remained the leader in prices for last year's potatoes, and Tajikistan - an outsider.
Early potatoes
Georgian sellers also managed to stabilize early potato prices this week. As a result, the price in Georgia remained at 93 cents per kg after the collapse a week earlier. The average price for early production in Poland (70 cents per kg).
In the meantime, in view of more active deliveries of potato crops of 2018 from Egypt and Pakistan, wholesale companies from of Russia were forced to lower prices by 8% to 69 cents per kg. IN Tajikistan the season of deliveries of domestic products of a new crop began, and, following the results of the week, prices for the first large batches were fixed at an average of 53 cents per kg.
Last year's carrots
The situation in the segment of last year's carrots was similar to the trends prevailing in the potato market. So, in view of the depletion of stocks of products from local producers, carrots continued to rise in price in of Russia, Ukraine и Poland. It is worth noting that the prices for carrots from the harvest of 2018 have been actively growing in these three countries since the end of March of this year. As a result, during this period, carrots rose in price by 7% in Poland, in Russia the price increased one and a half times, and in Ukraine jumped by 70%.
Meanwhile, this week in Tajikistan и Moldova the price has not changed much, but in Georgia, which still offers the most expensive last year's carrots, it fell 17% to 56 cents per kg.
