The Avebe UA cooperative (Aardappelmeel Verkoop Bureau), a potato starch business located in the north of the Netherlands, is poised to contribute to the fight against coronavirus. The company claims that the product extracted from purified potato protein can suppress the spread of infection and prevent lung damage. Avebe UA proposes to use this substance for the production of pharmaceuticals.
It is worth noting that the potato drug development project was one of the five winners of the competition for innovative solutions for the fight against coronavirus, announced by the Alliance of the Northern Provinces of the Netherlands (Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland).
SNN allocates one million euros for these projects.
