The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on the introduction of a temporary ban on the export of onions outside the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic from January 31, 2023 for three months. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
It is indicated that this measure was taken as part of ensuring food security and containing prices for socially significant goods, in particular, onions, shallots, leeks and other bulbous vegetables, fresh or chilled.
It should be noted that the cost of onions has risen sharply in all countries of Central Asia. An export ban has been introduced in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
