The Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss discussed with the Rector of the Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University Natalya Pyzhikova innovative projects of the university and the prospects for their implementation in the agro-industrial sector of the region, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia reports.
The governor noted that KrasGAU is the leader of the system of agrarian education in Siberia. It is no coincidence that the employees and students of the university are at the forefront of solving the problem of import substitution in the field of providing the inhabitants of the region with both finished agricultural products and the components and competencies necessary for this. The main thing is that discoveries and new technologies should not remain within the walls of educational institutions, but work for the benefit of the industry, increasing productivity and economic efficiency, ensuring the food security of the region.
“We must talk not just about the financial and economic well-being of villagers and farms, especially large ones, but about food security with a focus on the consumer, on the population. This topic today should run like a red thread through all the activities of the agricultural sector,” said Alexander Uss.
Natalya Pyzhikova said that the Agrarian University is implementing several priority projects related to food import substitution and increasing the efficiency of agricultural production. All developments can be scaled to the federal level. For example, a project on breeding and seed production of potatoes adapted to Siberian conditions. The university is working on this project in partnership with Dary Malinovki LLC. The result is new varieties of potatoes, improved cultivation technologies and new technologies for the improvement of seed material. Or a project for the production and processing of oilseeds. The university is engaged in the development in partnership with the Solyanskoye OPH. As a result, the rapeseed crop doubled on the farm, and a domestic plant for deep processing of rapeseed appeared, including the production of biofuel.
Alexander Uss highly appreciated the university's success in an innovative approach to agricultural production and recalled that at one time he was among those who recommended the regional agrarians to cooperate with KrasSAU in the field of new technologies. The head of the region also promised the agricultural university his assistance, including when the university will submit new grant applications at the federal level.
