“In recent years, the agro-industrial complex, including through increased state support, has shown steady growth, has been one of the drivers of the domestic economy and plays a significant role in ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the Russian Federation. This year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia expects to maintain positive dynamics in the industry, ”the report says.
In particular, according to representatives of the ministry, in 2020 it is expected to increase the sown area of the main crops, including corn for grain - up to 2,7 million hectares (in 2019 - 2,6 million hectares), rice - up to 197,4 thousand hectares (in 2019 - 194 thousand hectares), buckwheat - up to 858,2 thousand hectares (in 2019 - 806,6 thousand hectares). Potatoes will be placed on an area of 1329,1 thousand ha, which is 51,2 thousand ha higher than last year. It is expected that 527,2 thousand hectares will be sown with vegetable crops (2019 thousand hectares in 517,3). Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture is working to adjust the structure of cultivated areas under potatoes and vegetables to increase their production volumes.
According to the forecast of the ministry, the total sown area will be 80,3 million hectares, which is 0,8 million more than in 2019. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of May 26, 2020, in the whole country, spring sowing was carried out on an area of 43 million hectares, or 83% of the projected area. The general pace of work is currently higher than last year.
