Season 2019/20 for the company NORICA-SLAVIA started like a hurricane - unpredictably and with gusts. Since the fall, seed lots of several varieties of potato selection Norika (ADRETTA, BALTIK ROUZ, PASSWORDS) were reserved by customers almost completely. Also, the entire stock of varieties of seeds was quickly sold. GALA. Then there was a lull, and then again a period of active demand, up to an acute shortage of the desired varieties and volumes.
What conclusions can be made following the completion of such a bright sales season? Obviously, farmers began to think more carefully about their production programs and buy seeds in advance. There has been an increase in interest in new varieties: many acquired small batches for test plantings.
It should be noted that agricultural producers approach the selection of varieties very carefully, focusing on their own assessment methodology.
Variety Selection Criteria
What counts first? The specialists of NORIKA-SLAVIA company formed this list of criteria on the basis of extensive experience in communicating with farmers during field trips during the growing season, as well as based on the analysis of feedback reports that agricultural producers send to our company after harvesting and at the end of the storage period.
- productivity;
- resistance to mechanical damage;
- resistance to pathogens and adverse environmental factors;
- keeping quality (how it is stored);
- uniformity of tubers under the bush;
- marketability: how it looks in the window / in the grid / washed;
- the demand for the variety and the selling price;
- advantages in comparison with others (from the same ripeness group or similar in shape / color of the peel).
The number of indicators is quite large, because the manufacturer needs to grow a product that meets the wishes of the modern demanding customer, for which the attractive appearance of the tubers and their taste are important.
Today, it is easy to remember a liked product not only by packaging design: on packages with packaged potatoes, most producers began to indicate the name of the variety. Accordingly, the agricultural producer, including varieties with a high rating of consumer demand in his line, gets the opportunity to sell crops at a better price.
Go ahead of the market
On the other hand, more can often be achieved by going ahead of the market.
Potato variety in 2019 GALA took first place in the ranking of leading varieties of agricultural crops in terms of planting volumes in the Russian Federation. It took about five years (the variety was entered in the register in 2008) for GALA to gain recognition from farmers from all over Russia. That is why we recommend that you pay attention to new products and participate in our NORIKA breeding test program. The NORIKA product line includes other promising varieties with an excellent set of characteristics. Among the most popular are - PASSWORDS, VEGA, BALTIK ROUZ, Inar, FIDELIA, as well as varieties for processing - KIBIC и PIROL.
NORIKA-SLAVIA adheres to the principle of maximum openness and is always ready for dialogue, many of our clients come to seed farms before concluding an agreement (talking about batches made in the Russian Federation), they themselves take samples for further checks (tuber analysis, analyzes for hidden infection, trial brewing, etc.) and only then make a purchasing decision. NORIKA-SLAVIA concludes the vast majority of contracts with regular customers, which directly indicates that customers are satisfied with the results of our cooperation.
20 years in Russia
In March 2020, NORIKA-SLAVIA LLC, official representative of NORIKA Nordring-Kartoffelzucht und Vermehrungs GmbH (Federal Republic of Germany) on the territory of the Russian Federation, celebrated its twentieth anniversary. During this time, the company did a great job of popularizing and expanding the NORIKA variety line in Russia (to date, the State Register of Selection Achievements Allowed for Use contains 35 varieties of NORIKA selection).
This year, the company is applying for the State registration tests for three new varieties, two of which are intended for processing in fries (LINUS и IKARUS) and one table (BALTIC FIRE).
LINUS и IKARUS - mid-season varieties with a high starch content, a low tendency to darken and a low content of reducing sugars, which guarantees an excellent result after frying. They are characterized by a long period of rest.
BALTIC FIRE it is distinguished by a beautiful bright red peel (“fire” in the name is not accidental), evenness of the crop and high marketability of tubers can also be attributed to the advantages. Potential productivity is also at a decent level (in 2017 amounted to 820 kg / ha). The variety has a very good tasting rating, type of cooking B, the pulp is not prone to darkening after cooking. Tolerates short-term drought.
Meetings with farmers
This summer, the specialists of NORIKA-SLAVIA LLC, as in previous years, planned to actively participate in industry events to talk about the advantages and features of the new varieties of the company directly in the field, where anyone can independently dig, evaluate the potential of this or that varieties, ask questions to our specialists and, perhaps, pre-book the volume (as shown by the past sales season, this is relevant).
Unfortunately, many events have been canceled due to the epidemic. Today, our specialists plan to take part in several Field Days.
We will promptly inform you about the dates and venues of these events on our website. norika.ru
This season we will introduce such varieties to agricultural producers as: BALTIK ROUZ, VEGA, VENDI, GALA, Inar, PASSWORDS, SAFIA, FIDELIA и Estrella. Their characteristics can be found on our website, as well as by viewing the archives of the magazine.
