The Russian Research Center "Applied Chemistry (GIPC)" of the State Corporation Rostec in 2023 will open a new production line for the production of NEVAFLON brand fluoropolymer film, reports official website of the company "Rostec". It can be used to create greenhouse complexes, greenhouses, plant nurseries and greenhouses, successfully replacing glass, polycarbonate and other polymeric materials. Fluoropolymer film has increased environmental friendliness and durability. The service life of the material is up to 30 years without loss of quality, which is unattainable for a conventional polyethylene coating.
The film is obtained by a high-tech extrusion method, forcing a fluoropolymer melt through special equipment, resulting in a product with high quality characteristics. The material is resistant to chemical and mechanical influences, is lightweight, highly translucent, and fireproof.
“GIPC is the first and only Russian manufacturer of wide fluoropolymer films. This material has special advantages for use in the agricultural industry. It has a high light transmission coefficient - more than 94%. It also transmits ultraviolet radiation, especially in the UV-A range, which is necessary for the normal development of plants. NEVAFLON has an anti-drop effect and is self-cleaning. It is very durable and can last over 30 years. All these qualities of the film will help Russian farmers and agricultural enterprises to increase their yields and improve product quality,” said Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec State Corporation.
Both the films themselves and the waste from their production can be 100% recycled many times into a secondary granule while maintaining the basic properties. The positive environmental impacts of using films are twice the carbon footprint of their production, which is much less compared to glass, cotton fabrics and even paper packaging.
“Next year we plan to open a new specialized line for the production of films with a thickness of 25 to 300 microns and a width of up to 1600 mm. Now the maximum width of the film we produce is 250 mm. Wider film can be used for the construction of complex long-span curved structures, geocells, greenhouse complexes and conservatories. Businesses are already showing interest in new products. There are requests from construction companies, greenhouses, architectural bureaus and even aircraft design enterprises,” said Elena Kozlova, Director General of the Russian Research Center for Applied Chemistry (GIPH).
The line of NEVAFLON fluoropolymer films was presented by GIPC at the recently completed X Moscow International Chemical Forum.
