Now in the State Register of Breeding Achievements there are 428 varieties of potatoes. Only half of them are domestic. This year the State Register has added a new variety from Siberia.
Sokur was created by employees of the Siberian Research Institute of Plant Production and Breeding (SibNIIRS), which is part of the Federal Research Center “Institute of Cytology and Genetics”. It is distinguished by excellent taste and contains a fairly large amount of starch - 19, 4%. Senior Researcher SibNIIRS Anna Safonova reports that the variety is extremely resistant to Alternaria, late blight, potato cancer, fusarium wilt, and also to golden potato nematode. Sokur was obtained by crossing Adretta and Symphony varieties.
