Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" A.M. Malko took part in the round table "International aspects of the unification of the legislation of the countries of Europe and Central Asia in the field of testing varieties and seed production" and spoke in detail about the seed production of various crops in our country.
Malko noted that the volume of the Russian seed market, which ranks fifth or sixth in the world, is 11-12 million tons annually. Its leaders are spring grains and legumes - more than 5,5 million tons, and winter grains and legumes.
High-quality seed material is of great importance in Russia. For the most important groups of crops, the country is provided with its own seeds. The exceptions are sugar beets, sunflowers, potatoes, etc. Now there are federal programs that support the production of domestic seeds of these crops, a system of subsidies and state support has been developed.
The Russian Agricultural Center analyzes 95% of sown seeds: 9,7 million tons as part of government services and 1,5 million tons as certification. At present, XNUMX producers are registered in the Register of Seed Farms.
Seed production is being streamlined within the framework of certification: if it is now voluntary, then in accordance with the new law on seed production it will have a mandatory basis.
