Import volume. The volume of imports of ware potatoes to Russia in 2018 stood at 773,5 thousand tons, which is 8,1% (68,5 thousand tons) less than in 2017. Over 5 years, supplies increased by 61,5% (by 294,6 thousand tons), over 10 years - by 39,1% (by 217,3 thousand tons).
Potato imports to Russia in January-November 2019 amounted to 354,1 thousand tons. In relation to January-November 2018, volumes decreased by 53,2% (by 402,8 thousand tons).
Import Cost. The value of imports of ware potatoes in 2018 amounted to 239,3 million USD. Relative to 2017, it decreased by 6,4% (by 16,3 million USD), over five years it grew by 6,4% (by 14,4 million USD). Over 10 years (by 2008), the value of imports of ware potatoes in Russia grew by 12,0% (by 25,6 million USD).
In January-November 2019, the value of imports of food potatoes to Russia amounted to USD 133,4 million. This is 43,6% (USD 103,3 million) less than in the same period of 2018.
Seasonality of Ware Potato Import
Import of food potatoes to Russia in 2017-2018 has a pronounced seasonality. Deliveries were mainly made from March to June.
Imports of ware potatoes to Russia by country of origin
Rating of supplier countries by the end of 2018:
- Egypt - 45,4% of the total supply. The volume of imports from this country in 2018 amounted to 351,5 thousand tons, which is 8,5% (27,5 thousand tons) more than a year earlier.
- Belarus - 35,8%. The volume of imports amounted to 277,0 thousand tons, which is 78,1 thousand tons less than in 2017.
- Azerbaijan - 8,3%; 64,0 thousand tons (an increase of 12,1%).
- China - 6,9%; 53,2 thousand tons (decrease by 28,3%).
- Pakistan - 2,4%; 18,3 thousand tons (an increase of 390,9%).
Rating of supplier countries in January-November 2019:
- Egypt - 37,0% in total supplies. The volume of imports amounted to 131,0 thousand tons, which is 62,7% (220,4 thousand tons) less than in January-November 2018.
- Belarus - 24,2%; 85,7 thousand tons (decrease by 67,2%).
- Azerbaijan - 15,4%; 54,7 thousand tons (decrease by 14,5%).
- China - 10,9%; 38,4 thousand tons (decrease by 27,3%).
- Pakistan - 9,8%; 34,9 thousand tons (an increase of 90,2%).
The total supplies of potatoes from January to November 2019 from countries not included in the TOP-5 suppliers amounted to 9,4 thousand tons (2,6% of the total import).
