According to the Nieuwe Oogst portal, between July 2021 and June 2022, the consumption of potatoes as a raw material for the processing industry in the Netherlands reached a total of 3,957 million tons. This is more than 300 tons more than in the previous twelve months.
Recall that in the seasons of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, more than 4 million tons of potatoes were processed in the Netherlands. After the corona crisis of the last two years, the annual processing volume has fallen to less than 3,6 million tons of potatoes.
There has been a significant recovery since summer 2021, with potato processors back to their normal capacity. Investments were also made in new technological lines.
Data from the Potato Growers Association (Vavi) shows that in June 2022, Dutch producers processed 328 tons of potatoes into 000 tons of end product. This is less than in June last year. About 175% of raw materials are imported products.
