To replace fruit fillings in ice cream, which consumers are so accustomed to choosing, came vegetable fillings: beets, pumpkins and carrots. Avocado ice cream is popular among vegans. This is reported by the Internet portal SEEDS.org.ua according to the information of UFEB.
The main consumers of ice cream on the world market are EU countries: Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France and Spain. And in order to win in a highly competitive market, manufacturers are introducing a range of new flavorings.
The most popular trend today is the “taste of childhood” (ice cream packed in cone-shaped cups, filled with caramel and marshmallows).
According to the State Statistics Service, the total supply on the Ukrainian ice cream market last year amounted to 153 thousand tons, which is 1,2% less than in 2017 (155 thousand tons). Like most products, ice cream has its own seasonality of production, which depends on consumer demand, namely May-August, while production in September-December is the lowest.
Dessert production in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to 26,1 thousand tons, which is 21,7% higher than the same period in January-March last year (20,8 thousand tons).
Ukrainian ice cream export volumes are far from the indicators of the main players such as Germany (169 thousand tons), France (144,9 thousand tons) and Belgium (142,7 thousand tons).
According to customs, last year, domestic producers exported 6,1 thousand tons of ice cream with a total value of $ 13,3 million, which is 17,6% in volume and 19,5% in money terms higher than in 2017. The main buyers of Ukrainian ice cream are Moldova - 26%, Russia - 22,7% and Israel - 14,5%. These same countries are leading among buyers this year.
Import, in turn, is rather sluggish and in 2018 was 20 times lower than export (6,148 thousand tons against 296 tons). The situation has remained unchanged this year (1,9 thousand tons against 56 tons).
