The World Potato Congress invites all interested parties to attend its third webinar in 2020.
The webinar will be held on March 18, 2020 at 17:00 (Msk). The working language is English!
The host of the webinar is Dr. Liya Crror, Head of the Potato Disease and Pest Study Section of the European Association for the Study of Potato (EAPR).
About the webinar topic
Powdery scab causes significant economic damage to potato producers around the world, as this disease leads to a decrease in the marketability of tubers and a reduction in their shelf life. The development of the disease depends on a number of factors, including the level of inoculum in the soil and seed tubers, susceptibility of varieties and climatic conditions.
The focus of the webinar will be on factors contributing to the onset of the disease and on integrated methods to reduce the risk of powdery scab.
The presentation will discuss aspects such as the role of alternative "hosts" in the spread of the pathogen, latent seed infection and environmental conditions. Preventive measures will also be considered (including the use of tolerant varieties, testing of soil and seeds, selection of planting dates, chemical control, for example, fumigation of the soil and the use of fungicides before planting).
