The shortage of large potatoes in the near future may lead to disruptions in the supply of chips. According to Kommersant, Frito Lay Manufacturing LLC (part of PepsiCo) notified its contractors about the expected interruptions in the supply of the entire range of Lay's chips in September and October due to a shortage of potatoes on the market.
PepsiCo is the largest potato chip manufacturer in Russia. It produces snacks at factories in the Moscow and Rostov regions, and is now building an enterprise in Novosibirsk. According to Euromonitor International estimates, in 2020 the company occupied 65,3% of the Russian potato chips market with a turnover of 93,81 billion rubles. This year PepsiCo planned to process more than 500 thousand tons of potatoes against 470 thousand tons a year earlier.
