The first twenty tons of potatoes grown in Iturup (Kuril Islands) were delivered to Sakhalin. For Iturup, famous for fish and caviar, and not at all for plant products, this is an exceptional event.
In the peasant farm "Taste of Nature", which has grown potatoes, the trial delivery is called a reserve for the future and they expect that the export of vegetables with the brand "Made in Iturup" will become a common practice.
The farm plans to organize supplies to the closest neighbors - to Kunashir and Shikotan, not forgetting about the local residents.
If the price / quality ratio suits both parties (sellers and consumers), then not only potatoes, but also Iturup carrots, cabbage, beets, cucumbers and tomatoes will appear on the shelves in other districts of the region.
Until recently, the named KLF had ten hectares of land at its disposal. Seven of them are given for potatoes. The Kurils are a territory of risky agriculture, but this year's harvest was encouraging: they harvested 15 tons of potatoes per hectare.
Starting from 2022, the farm will begin to develop 98 hectares of leased hectares. In order to preserve the harvested crop, the vegetable store is almost ready for delivery on the farm. Its capacity is still only 3 thousand tons. The grand opening of the facility will take place in November.
