Weather prevented farmers from starting planting on time.
The planting of potatoes at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsky state farm was hampered by the weather. Last year, employees of the enterprise finished planting the root crop on May 19. And this year the sowing campaign is in full swing these days.
In total, the state farm will plant 555 hectares of tubers, almost half have already been planted. They want to collect more than 15 thousand tons of starchy vegetable from them.
“Because of the rains, the earth does not dry up, because of this we were delayed. We would have 7 more - maximum 10 sunny days, we would have had time to sow all the potatoes, ”says Tatyana Shkuro, chief agronomist of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsky state farm.
About 50 people were involved in the planting of culture. The working day at the farm machine operators now begins at 7 in the morning and lasts until 10 in the evening. The first harvest will go to the shelves of Sakhalin stores in July.
In addition to potatoes, the state farm will plant 60 hectares of cabbage, 30 hectares were given for carrots, but the beets have not been sown yet - the rains prevented them.
The islanders will be provided with local vegetables almost before the start of the harvest in 2021. Now the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Food of the Sakhalin Region is considering a measure of state support for the purchase of refrigerators.
