The largest meeting of European potato growers - the annual specialized exhibition PotatoEurope - this year will be held September 12-13 in Germany.
Preparation for it is in full swing. About 200 exhibitors submitted applications for participation in the exhibition, including companies involved in the production of seed potatoes, fertilizers, plant protection products, and agricultural machinery. Potatoes are growing successfully at the test sites at the event venue (Ritterg ut Bockerode, near Hanover in Lower Saxony). Ideal weather conditions and well-prepared soil made it possible to land using the latest technology at the end of April.
Organic farming will be one of the main topics of PotatoEurope 2018. In cooperation with K (DN (Kompetenzzentrum (Dkolandbau Niedersachsen GmbH - Competence Center for Organic Agriculture)) DLG is organizing a special event on the topic of organic potatoes "- an information platform where technology developers, service providers will present a wide range of knowledge related to successful cultivation organic potatoes, with a focus on variety selection, planting, harvesting and marketing.
During the demonstration displays of equipment at the exhibition, emphasis will be placed on using the capabilities of optoelectronics in sorting unwashed potatoes. Forum guests will see equipment in action that can detect and remove foreign bodies during crop sorting, as well as select tubers by size and other quality parameters.
In addition, DLG and the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture plan to highlight soil cultivation technologies that allow weed control without herbicides. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to inspect the experimental plots and compare the results obtained with and without chemical treatments.
