On February 17, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin chaired a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation, during which a new version of the federal law on seed productiondeveloped by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. The main goal of the bill is to create the necessary conditions for the effective development of the seed market in our country.
According to Mikhail Mishustin, this is an important document for the country's agricultural sector. “Good harvests and, of course, the profitability of many farms depend on the sowing material,” the Prime Minister noted.
The new edition of the law defines the basic concepts and regulates the main processes associated with the production, sale and storage of seeds, it is planned to establish by-laws that determine the requirements for the quality of seed. The document provides for the creation of a federal state information system in the field of seed production of agricultural plants. Thanks to this digital resource, agricultural producers will be able to obtain information on the availability of high-quality seeds with specified characteristics on the market, as well as to find out whether these seeds are suitable for reproduction in specific conditions. The procedure for including new varieties in the State Register of Breeding Achievements has also been clarified, according to which each variety will have to be tested taking into account regional specifics.
The government supported the bill and will soon be submitted to the State Duma for consideration.
