German farmers grow about 10 million tons of potatoes annually, but this figure can vary greatly depending on the weather - by a couple of million tons. For example, last year was the worst in two decades - 8,9 million tons. Additional needs are covered by imports - about 600 thousand tons annually.

Germans love potato dishes and various side dishes. Every inhabitant of Germany consumes on average about 60 kilograms of potatoes annually. In Russia, for example, this figure ranges from 95 to 110 kilograms per year. In Germany, half of this volume comes from the production of various potato products and semi-finished products such as fries or chips.
