Ussuri scientists have developed a new variety of potatoes - "Cossack." He has already passed the tests and is included in the list of selection achievements of the country. And these days, the Primorsky Scientific Institute of Agriculture is engaged in the rehabilitation of existing varieties and grow potatoes directly in test tubes.
Test-tube potatoes are not fiction, but the realities of modern science. For three months, scientists grew plants under conditions of complete sterility. Protected from viruses and fungi. So people of science help farmers get clean planting material.
Lyudmila Novoselova, Senior Researcher, Primorsky Research Institute of Agriculture: “We are engaged in seed production on a virus-free basis. We grow the first mini-tubers in greenhouses. ”
It’s difficult to recognize a folk vegetable in a thin as a thread stalk. In this greenhouse, potatoes create ideal conditions for full and proper growth. By autumn, the plant will provide primary seed material, and already in the next season and in another greenhouse, the second bread will be prepared for planting not by experiment, but by the field.
In the experimental greenhouse this year, 17 varieties of potatoes. Perfect tubers are grown here. Scientists call this environment virus-free. Harvest from here next year will go to the field, and farmers of Primorye will receive healthy seed material.
All these varieties have long been zoned and are actively used by farmers. But with constant crop rotation, the variety degenerates, loses its best qualities. Scientists update them and again give the seeds the declared indicators. Moreover, there are more than enough potato gourmets.
Irina Kim, head of the laboratory for the diagnosis of potato disease at the Primorsky Research Institute of Agriculture: “The market, first of all, dictates that the variety be fruitful and resistant to the main pathogens of Primorye. And now the main trend is yellow flesh, yellow peel. ”
So just turned out a new variety of the seaside NIIISH "Cossack". The other day he was entered in the register of selection achievements. Augustin is also being tested. This variety is planned to be launched into mass plantings as early as next year. The field season is in full swing, and therefore scientists all summer will be able to study the main Russian culture up and down.
