According to the Association "Roskrakhmalpatoka", the production of modified starches since 2015 increased by 42.27%, and wheat - by 96.96%. The Roskrakhmalpatok Association presented the results of the industry for 2018. According to the organization, by September 2018, 202 427 tons of native starches were produced in Russia, of which corn starch traditionally accounted for the largest share - 147 254 tons.
Also, 48 528 tons of wheat starch, 6 646 tons of potato starch, 6 804 dextrins, 27 422 tons of modified starches, 404 603 tons of starch syrup, and 133 484 tons of glucose-fructose syrups were produced.
Key event of the year
In addition, Roskrakhmalpatoka highlights a number of key industry events in 2018.
- The largest corn processor and producer of various types of starches, sugary products and high-protein feeds, AMILKO LLC, has increased the production capacity of corn grain processing up to 800 tons / day. By 2022, the starch factory plans to process up to 500 thousand tons of grain per year. AMILCO also plans to organize a biotechnological cluster for deep processing of grain in the Rostov region.
- A landmark achievement is also the launch of the maltodextrin production line at the Krasnodar Starch Plant Gulkevichsky. Recall that maltodextrin is a hygroscopic powder obtained from the processing of starch and used in baby food, sports products, bakery and confectionery products as a substitute for sugar. Upon reaching full capacity, the production volume will be 80 tons / day, which will completely “close” the needs of domestic enterprises. In August 2018, the plant opened a representative office in the Skolkovo Innovation Center to provide technological support to consumers and provide advice on the introduction of maltodextrin in product formulations.
- The American food company Cargill creates a biotechnological cluster in the Tula region. The total investment is 10 billion rubles, of which 1,5 billion rubles are Cargill funds. The agreement on the creation of the cluster was signed by the government of the Tula region, the head of the Russian representative office of Cargill Elena Zosimova and the head of the Efremov administration, Sergei Baltabaev, on May 24, 2018, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to the agreement, the cluster will be created on the territory of the advanced social and economic development (TOSED) "Efremov", on a plot of 30 hectares. A number of small and medium enterprises for the deep processing of agricultural raw materials will be placed there.
- In the spring of 2018, an American grain trader and one of the world's largest producers of food ingredients and feed ingredients Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) bought a 50% stake in starch feed from Aston, a Russian starch and sweetener company. As a result of the transaction, Aston will expand its product range and improve product quality.
Tasks and prospects of the industry
Among the tasks and short-term prospects in the industry, it is possible to highlight the increase in the export potential for products (maltodextrin, corn starch, feed products), import substitution (in particular corn gluten), and also note the growing interest of investors in the production of potato starch.
