The Day of the vegetable field was held in the Shushensky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, reports press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
Managers and agronomists of agricultural organizations, representatives of government, science, specialized institutions and businesses discussed issues of increasing the efficiency of potato and vegetable growing in the region, measures to support these industries and the quality of seed.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Trade of the region Ilya Vasiliev said that the production of "borsch set" is a topical issue not only for the region, but for the whole country. “Since last year, close attention has been paid to state assistance for the cultivation of potatoes and vegetables. In particular, the rates of per hectare support are increasing. The money is allocated from the federal and regional budgets. Additional areas of state assistance to vegetable and potato growers are provided for in the regional law on supporting the agro-industrial complex, adopted on July 7, 2022. They relate to the implementation of investment projects, the acquisition of machinery and equipment, the implementation of agro-technological work,” Ilya Vasiliev emphasized.
Since 2020, the number of agricultural organizations cultivating potatoes and vegetables in the region has increased to 146 - by 4,3%. According to the norm of food consumption, a person needs 90 kg of potatoes and 140 kg of vegetables per year. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the availability of potatoes is several times higher than the recommended requirement.
Oksana Weber, Head of the Crop Development Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Territory, noted that in order to obtain a stable harvest and quality products, it is necessary to comply with production technologies, in particular, use seed material that meets the requirements of GOST. “In this direction, our agricultural producers have a large reserve,” Oksana Veber drew attention. - Selection and seed production of potatoes in the region are carried out by the agricultural enterprise "Dary Malinovki", as well as scientists from the Krasnoyarsk Agrarian University. Thanks to the joint work, a system of original seed production adapted to the needs of Eastern Siberia is being formed.”
The participants of the Vegetable Field Day were also told about highly productive varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops and potatoes, and technologies for their cultivation. In addition, there was a tasting of vegetables and potatoes grown in the fields of the Shushensky vegetable state variety plot, a demonstration of crops and products.
Let's add that this season the region's farms allotted more than 6,1 thousand hectares for potatoes - 8% more than last year, for vegetables - 1,1 thousand hectares. Cleanup began in six districts of the region. 2,9 thousand tons have been dug up with a yield of 197,6 centners per hectare. Farmers plan to harvest vegetables in early September.
