In the southern regions of the Omsk region, in the south-west of the Novosibirsk region and in the western part of the Altai Territory, low indicators of the vegetation index are recorded, which indicates a significant delay in the development of crops, follows from the analysis of data from the space monitoring system on June 3, 2020, conducted by the National Union of agricultural insurers.
“By analyzing the absolute indices of the vegetation index, which in the indicated territories are in the range of 0,30–0,40, in comparison with other meteorological indices, we can say that the decrease in the rate of development of crops is due to low moisture in the soil. - comments the situation in Siberian regions, the President of the NSA, Korney Bizhdov. - The moisture level today does not exceed 15–25% with a norm of 35–40%. In the south of the Omsk region, the moisture level in the soil is 10% lower than the long-term average. In the south-west of the Novosibirsk region and in the western regions of the Altai Territory, this figure is 20% lower than the average for the last 10 years. ”
According to union experts, temperatures up to + 30 ° C and above, which in the West Siberian regions lasted for the past 10 days, from May 24 to June 2, could also negatively affect the development of crops. In areas on the border with Kazakhstan, in the Novosibirsk, Omsk regions and in the Altai Territory, the temperature background reached + 34 ° C.
According to the NSA space monitoring system, no preconditions for improving the situation are expected in the coming weeks.
“The NSA estimates the risk level for crop production in the regions of Western Siberia as high and recalls that the agrarian can conclude a crop insurance contract with state support no later than 15 days after the completion of sowing work,” emphasizes Korney Bizhov, president of the NSA. - I note that Siberian farmers have already begun the conclusion of agricultural insurance contracts: for 4 months of 2020 they insured 36 thousand hectares of spring sowing: 34 thousand hectares in the Omsk region and 2 thousand hectares in the Altai Territory. A year earlier, over the same period, in the Siberian Federal District, 25 thousand hectares were provided with insurance coverage under state support - thus, in the current year, farmers in these regions more quickly acquire insurance coverage. ”
