“In connection with the publication in a number of media of reports of a ban imposed by the Rosselkhoznadzor on the import of all potatoes from Egypt to Russia, we are reporting that such restrictions have not been introduced,” the press service of the department said.
According to the agency, the ban applies exclusively to those regions of Egypt where the causative agent of brown rot has been identified.
“The ban on the import of potatoes has been introduced only to places (production sites) where the brown rot pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al. Has been identified, which causes potato disease quarantine for the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and is absent in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. Acclimatization and spread of the specified quarantine facility throughout the country can cause direct economic losses of about 2 billion rubles, ”the statement said.
The Rosselkhoznadzor announced a restriction on the import of Egyptian potatoes on March 15.
