Rosselkhoznadzor discovered re-export of Egyptian potatoes from Belarus. In case of repeated violation, the agency threatens to ban the import of potatoes into Russia with Belarusian phytosanitary certificates.
According to the service, when checking 18 tons of potatoes that came from Belarus with a Belarusian certificate, marking was found on some of the packages, confirming that the products were of Egyptian origin. The shipment will be returned to the sender.
“In case of repeated detection of such cases, the Rosselkhoznadzor will be forced to introduce temporary restrictions on the supply of potatoes from Belarus to the Russian Federation accompanied by Belarusian phytosanitary certificates,” the Rosselkhoznadzor warns.
Potato supplies from Egypt to Russia are permitted only from a few zones free of diseases and quarantine facilities. Last year, potato moth caterpillars and the causative agent of brown bacterial rot of potato were found in Egyptian potatoes.
