A downward trend in prices for white cabbage was recorded in Russia this week. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the price decline is due to the lack of demand for this product, which in turn is due to its low quality.
According to Russian farmers, the weather this season did not have the best effect on the salable appearance of medium-sized cabbage: due to prolonged rains, excess moisture formed on the cabbage fields, which subsequently led to cracking of the cabbage.
So, for a week, the price of cabbage in Russia fell by an average of 22%. Today, most producers ship it at 9-16 rubles / kg ($ 0,14-0,24 / kg), while a week earlier the price of cabbage often reached 20 rubles / kg ($ 0,30 / kg).
Farmers blame the rather low demand for white cabbage in such a sharp fall in prices, while the supply on the market is growing rapidly, since most farms have already begun mass shipments of late varieties of cabbage.
It is worth noting that at the moment the price of white cabbage in Russia already actually corresponds to the price level for the same period last year. Moreover, manufacturers do not exclude that these products will continue to decline in price.
