Russians began to buy fewer vegetables from July 2018 to June 2019, GfK found out.
Sales of all major vegetable categories decreased. For example, over the year, sales of potatoes in physical terms decreased by 5,8 percent, onions - by 3,2 percent, sweet peppers - by 6,9 percent, and cabbage - by 12,3 percent.
There are fewer cucumbers and tomatoes to buy. Experts associate the trend with relatively high prices for fresh vegetables, writes Kommersant, which has a study at its disposal. The cost of vegetables really increased: the average price for tomatoes at the end of the period reached 98 rubles per kilogram, for cucumbers - 91 rubles.
As a result, according to GfK, buyers began to buy cereals. Their cost is almost two times less than some vegetables: the average prices for cereals in Russia are 49 rubles per pack.
