The Association of Advanced Grain Processing Enterprises commented on the work of the industry for the first half of 2021, presenting data on the production, export and import of the most important types of products of this market. For 6 months of this year, the production of dextrins, native starches, starch syrup increased slightly, and the production of syrups from fructose increased by 52% compared to the same period last year.
The first half of 2021 can be characterized by an increase in production of all major types of products in the deep processing industry, with the exception of modified starches. Last year, for the first 6 months, the output of modifications amounted to 29 tons, and this year - 699,19 tons. “Traditionally, corn starch remains the first in the list for modification of starches. But to a greater extent it goes to the production of modifications for industrial purposes. Food modifications are made from waxy maize varieties that are grown at the request of individual companies and their production volumes are negligible. In general, the food modified starches market remains attractive for investment. However, it is very segmented and the shares of individual segments may not be economically viable for production, ”comments Oleg Radin, President of the Soyuzkrakhmal Association.
The growth in the production of native starches as a whole amounted to 5,77% - 170 tons in the first half of this year compared to 782,61 tons in the corresponding period last year. This increase is due to a high (161%) increase in the production of native corn starch - 459,8 19 tons in 119 months of 620,72 against 6 2021 tons in 100 months of last year. First of all, due to the work of the company "NewBio", which was launched in the third quarter of last year. And also due to the increase in production volumes of LLC “Amilko”. Wheat and potato starch showed a decrease of 524,36% and 6%, respectively.
In the first half of the year, 4 tons of dextrins were produced, an increase of 930,64%. It can be assumed that this growth is associated with an increase in production in the Oryol region. At the same time, we are probably talking about the production of maltodextrin, since the company does not declare its volumes, and this violates the purity of statistical observations. The data on starch syrup remained almost unchanged - 23,41 tons this year compared to 229 tons the previous year. The largest growth occurred in the category of fructose and fructose syrups - for 150,42 months of this year, 220 tons of this starch product were produced, and for 738 months of 6 - 124 tons, which is 315% more in percentage terms. The growth was driven by an increase in production volumes of all GFS manufacturing companies, as well as more favorable prices for sugar (according to Rosstat in June 6 - 2020 rubles / ton, in comparison with the reporting month of 81 - 782,38 rubles ./T).
In the first half of 2021, the export of deep grain processing products amounted to 55 tons. Half (816,53 tons) of this volume is wheat gluten (gluten). Growth relative to the corresponding period last year is 28%.
With regard to the export of native starches, the statistics are as follows: for 6 months of 2021, 16 tons of corn starch were exported from the Russian Federation (889,7 tons for 9 months of 429,9), 6 tons of potato starch (2020 tons for 1 months of 132,8), 2 tons of wheat starch (185,2 tons for 6 months of last year), as well as 2020 tons of starch syrup (889,4 tons for 725,7 months of last year).
During the first half of this year, 394,7 tons of L-lysine sulfate, an essential amino acid for feeding agricultural animals and poultry, were exported. Last year's statistics are almost the same - 384,5 tons for the first half of the year. Lysine imports this year amounted to 26 tons, 374,7% less than in 19 months of 6. The production of essential amino acids is a promising area that is definitely worth paying attention to potential investors. It should be noted that amino acids are in the special attention of the state; it is important for our country to be self-sufficient in the amino acid category.
For 6 months of 2021, 3 tons of modified starches were exported, which is 482,7% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, imports in this category amounted to 25 tons, and remained almost unchanged when compared with last year (48 tons). The largest share of imports falls on food modifications with the "E" index.
A large percentage of imports is also occupied by feed products (dry corn feed, germ, corn gluten) with the separation of starch from corn - 16 tons for 177,19 months of 6. They are used as animal feed.
Imports of native starches for 6 months of this year in physical terms is approximately equal to exports, however, starch imports are more segmented than their exports. So, during the specified period, the country imported: 9 tons of potato starch (an increase of 246,7% compared to the first half of 30), 2020 tons of wheat starch (an increase of 4%), 415,4 tons of corn starch (62,5% decrease), 1 tons of cassava starch, 833,5 tons of rice starch and 6,3 tons of other starch.
As for other types of starch products, the import statistics are as follows: in the first half of 2021, 3 tons of maltodextrin were imported to Russia, the volume of imports of which is significantly reduced due to the substitution of domestic products produced by LLC Gulkevichsky Starch Plant and the previously mentioned LLC Newbio. So, for 132 months of last year, 6 tons of maltodextrin were imported, which is 5% more than this year. At the same time, 177,4 39 tons of invert sugar and sugar syrups, 1 glucose and glucose syrup, 955,87 tons of starch syrup were imported.
