In 2019, the All-Russian Potato Field Day is held in Vladikavkaz. The event is attended by more than a thousand specialists: leading Russian and foreign experts, representatives of federal and regional agro-industrial complex management bodies, industry departments, scientific institutions and seed-breeding companies.
Participants were presented the most promising varieties and hybrids of potato and the technologies for growing them in high altitude, advanced methods for producing and clonal propagation of in vitro material, development of mini- and micro-tubers, storage, sorting and packaging of seed lots of potatoes.
During the plenary meeting, topics for the development of science and production in the direction of potato growing, technologies in seed production from the test tube to the elite, and the realization of export potential were discussed.
Chairman of the Government of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Taimuraz Tuskayev noted that “Agriculture is the most important sector of the national economy that determines our food security. Speaking generally about the socio-economic development of North Ossetia, thanks to agriculture, long-term trends are observed, the republic actively participates in state programs, new social facilities, healthcare are built, and economic projects necessary for our republic are implemented. ”
Today North Ossetia-Alania has already fully satisfied its own need for potatoes. On average, 8 thousand hectares of land are occupied by this crop in the Republic. In 2018, the crops were increased by 10%, and the harvest exceeded the 2017 harvest by 137% and amounted to 65,9 thousand tons. However, the target indicators - 78-79 thousand tons in 2019 - are planned to be achieved not by expanding the area, but by using high-quality seed.
The head of the FSBI "State Commission" Olga Lesnykh held a series of negotiations with ministers of agriculture of North Ossetia-Alania, Ingushetia, the Chechen and Kabardino-Balkarian Republics on issues related to the regional and climatic features of varietal testing. In addition, the problem of the absence of federal lands for the state variety testing at the Federal State Budgetary Institution "State Commissariat" was brought up for discussion by the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and Ingushetia.
Also, as part of the trip, Olga Lesnykh visited the state variety testing site, assessed the condition of the material and technical base and discussed with the employees of the branch of the FSBI “State Commission for the Republic of North Ossetia” the organizational issues of the coming agricultural year. Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the timely supply of seed material and the importance of adhering to agricultural technologies.
