FEFU students presented a project to increase potato yields in the Far East and Siberia, RIA VladNews reports with reference to the FEFU press service.
According to the developers of the project, in order to increase productivity by 3-4 times, it is necessary to use hydroponic plants.
As students note, to effectively cultivate potatoes and reduce the accumulation of viruses and phytopathogens, seed material needs to be replaced every 3-4 years. It is proposed to obtain virus-free seeds using micro-tuber production technology in a hydroponic plant. For one growing season with 300 plants, you can collect up to 7000-10000 tubers weighing 5-7 grams, and in a year - grow up to four generations. The use of such a healthy planting material increases the yield of potatoes to 300-400% and increases its shelf life.
The authors propose to create such centers for growing healthy potatoes directly on farms in Siberia and the Far East. Students are preparing to submit this business project to the contest of ideas for the Far Eastern Hectare.
