Sergey Molokov, Deputy Director of Agroseyv LLC, Head of Vegetable Storage Facilities
A metal frameless arched hangar is one of the most popular types of construction, on the basis of which Russian vegetable and potato storage facilities are built. Its undoubted advantages include the shortest installation time and a relatively low level of construction costs. But such buildings can be used for storing vegetables or potatoes only if they are properly insulated. Today, hangars (as well as many other building structures) are most often insulated by spraying polyurethane foam (PPU).
ABOUT MATERIAL AND TECHNOLOGY
Polyurethane foam is a synthetic insulation obtained by the exothermic reaction of two liquid components: polyester and polyisocyanate. As a result of mixing the components, polyurethane foam is obtained, which, when sprayed, forms a durable, lightweight and airtight coating.
One of the most important advantages of polyurethane foam is excellent adhesion to almost any building material. The foam can be applied to all surface configurations for a reliable, seamless and seamless coating that ensures a stable indoor temperature.
Polyurethane foam has strong moisture-repelling properties, the PU foam insulation layer is moisture-proof, it protects the structure from moisture, and products from fungus and mold. For objects erected using frameless technology from corrugated metal, polyurethane foam insulation is the only way to avoid condensation on the walls.
Polyurethane foam is not affected by temperature changes and shrinkage, protects the structure from corrosion, increases its strength and bearing capacity.
This type of insulation is considered environmentally friendly (such materials as vegetable oils, soy and water are used in its production), it can come into contact with food products, and does not pollute the air with toxic substances; It does not emit volatile components or dust into the air.
And one more key advantage: polyurethane foam retains all its properties for 25-30 years and does not require maintenance or repair. The only limitation is that the coating should not be exposed to ultraviolet radiation; under the sun's rays, polyurethane foam is destroyed.
PRECISE CALCULATION
The standard layer of polyurethane foam in a typical storage has a thickness of 5-7 cm. In reality, this figure depends on many factors. For the calculation, it is necessary to understand which product will be stored in an insulated room (for example, carrots and cabbage require more powerful thermal insulation of the warehouse than potatoes), how long storage is required (when placing the product until December, a layer of insulation of 3 cm is enough), in which an object is located in the region (for territories characterized by extremely high or extremely low temperatures, warehouses are insulated to the maximum).
Every centimeter of insulation has a powerful effect on the final result. But on the other hand, the cost of the project directly depends on the thickness of the coating. The heat engineering calculation, which is carried out by specialists taking into account the current SNiP based on the data provided by the customer, helps to choose the optimal solution. At the same time, it is important to note that it will not be possible to “re-insulate” the storage after some time - due to a change in product or shelf life - the quality of the coating when applied in layers will be much lower.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Thermal insulation of warehouses by spraying polyurethane foam is the fastest way to insulate buildings from the existing ones. On average, insulation of a storage facility with a volume of 1,5-2 thousand tons takes about 5-7 days.
Work on the application of polyurethane foam must be carried out in the warm season: the ideal temperature regime for obtaining a high-quality coating is + 10-15 ° C. The surfaces of the new storage do not require special preparation before applying the insulation. If the warehouse has already been in operation, the walls must be cleaned and degreased.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Of course, all the advantages of polyurethane foam can only be assessed provided that the application technology is strictly observed and the quality components for the mixture are selected.
Earlier, the Agrosave company, specializing in the development and construction of vegetable storages for more than 10 years, invited contractors to carry out the warming of its facilities. But we always understood that guaranteeing an impeccable quality of work is possible only if you do it yourself. In addition, an integrated approach to each project allows us to reduce customer costs.
Today, the service for warming rooms by PPU spraying is included in the list of Agroseyva's proposals. The company's specialists completed a training course and currently already have extensive experience in thermal insulation of warehouses in different regions of Russia. The work uses the most effective modern equipment (GRACO, USA) and raw materials from leading manufacturers (BASF, Germany).
