Half of them are Chinese
In 2018, all the top twenty companies achieved business growth, in some cases double-digit.
The total volume of global sales of agricultural pesticides aimed at harvest in 2018 amounted to 57,561 billion dollars, which is 6% more than the previous year. After a 3-year situation with a market decline (2015: -9,6%; 2016: -2,5%; 2017: + 2,5%), the global agrochemical industry returned to its normal business condition, which is fully reflected in the top 20 from 2018.
After the completion of acquisitions and mergers, the synergistic effect of the new top 4 gradually emerged, which are Syngenta, Bayer, BASF and Corteva, all with growing business to varying degrees.
Among them, Syngenta, a subsidiary of ChemChina, ranks first with sales of $ 1 billion, up 9,909% from the previous year. Sales of all products of the company increased, of which sales of insecticides by 7,2%.
After Bayer completed the acquisition of Monsanto, sales of pesticides (excluding the seed processing business) increased markedly by 26,5%.
BASF achieved a 3,2% increase in sales of pesticides, of which sales of functional plant protection systems, consisting of seed treatment and biological products, increased sharply by 52%.
In 2018, Corteva pesticide sales totaled $ 6,445 billion, up 4,2% from the previous year.
FMC climbed to 2018th place in 5 with $ 4,285 billion in sales and a growth rate of 69,3%, the fastest growing among the top 20 companies (due to the acquisition of some crop protection businesses from DuPont) ...
ADAMA, a subsidiary of ChemChina, achieved a 10% increase in pesticide sales. ADAMA sales increased in all countries, including a sharp increase of 25% in Latin America (including non-pesticidal products).
Thanks to the successful acquisition of Arysta, sales of UPL pesticides increased by 19%.
Due to the adverse climate in North America, the effects of the exchange rate on currencies sales of Sumitomo Chemical pesticides fell slightly by 2%.
Nufarm pesticide sales increased 4,4%, excluding sales in Australia and New Zealand, through acquisitions from FMC, Syngenta and ADAMA.
Among the 11 companies in the top ten, eight are Chinese, four of which achieved double-digit sales growth.
Beijing Nutrichem successfully entered the top 10, Nanjing Red Sun and Yangnong Chemical achieved more than 20% increase in pesticide sales, Sichuan Fuhua Tongda Agro-Chemical achieved 12,8% increase in pesticide sales, and Lier Chemical and Liben Crop Science for the first time entered the top 20 with sales of $ 605 million and $ 561 million, respectively.
The Chinese company Lier Chemical has achieved an increase in sales of pesticides by more than 30%.
The other three companies in the top 20 list are respectively Kumiai Chemical at 12th, Nissan Chemical at 18th and Sipcam-Oxon at 20th.
Among these three companies, Kumiai Chemical and Nissan Chemical achieved double-digit growth, of which Kumiai Chemical achieved a 27,3% high growth. Sipcam-Oxon is the only Italian company in the top 20, with pesticide sales in US dollars up 2,6%.
