After a fairly long period of stagnation, demand for onions intensified in Russia, which enabled local farmers to raise prices for these products, EastFruit project analysts said. However, the project experts note that an upward price trend is observed exclusively in the high-quality product segment.
So, today Russian farmers manage to ship quality onions from 10 to 16 rubles / kg ($ 0,16-0,26 / kg) depending on the region of production, which is on average 8% more expensive than at the end of last working week.
According to project experts, rising prices for onions in Russia during this period can be called traditional. To date, farmers have almost completed the sale of products from unequipped storage facilities, and better quality onions are offered for sale more expensive, since the demand for these products in recent days has remained stably high.
However, we note that the rise in price of products led to a certain decline in trading activity. Nevertheless, manufacturers say that they do not intend to reduce the price, citing relatively small volumes of quality onions in the country's storage facilities.
It is worth adding that, despite the upward trend, the price of onions in Russian farms today is on average 24% lower than at the end of January 2019. At the same time, farmers are confident in the further appreciation of these products, since stocks of quality onions in farms are very limited. Moreover, most farmers declare their intention to continue to revise prices upward, provided that current sales rates are maintained.
