In the Ordabasy district of the Turkestan region, Dutch Riviera potatoes are grown.
This is an early ripening variety, therefore, in May, entrepreneurs intend to get a crop. Harvested potatoes will be fully exported to Russia. Spring in the south of Kazakhstan comes early, so farmers begin to work in late February. For example, in this field the plowing of the earth and the planting of seeds are already finishing. In just a couple of months, they plan to collect 1800 tons of potatoes here.
Bakytzhan Bekbosynov, head of the farm:
- Last year we sowed potatoes on 23 hectares of land, and this year - 40 hectares. We use Russian and Belarusian multifunctional equipment. In the near future we are planning to purchase several more cars.
Potatoes are grown here according to Dutch technology without chemical additives. Exceptionally natural fertilizer gives potatoes a special flavor, farmers say. But in the domestic market such a product is not in demand, so the crop has to be exported abroad.
Bakytzhan Bekbosynov, head of the farm:
- We cannot trade in the local market, as many do not believe that our potatoes do not contain nitrates. Therefore, we export the crops to Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk. We have a contract with local entrepreneurs.
The total cultivated area in the Turkestan region is 823 thousand hectares. 300 thousand of them have already been mastered; grain and cotton grow on them.
Nurbek Badyrakov, Head of the Department of Agriculture of the Turkestan Region:
- Today 90% of the sown fields have been plowed and cultivated. About 16 thousand units of agricultural machinery work in these fields. This year, the agrarians of the Turkestan region are planned to allocate 38 thousand tons of fuel.
