The dynamics of the harvesting campaign for potatoes and open field vegetables was discussed today at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, reports press service of the organization.
The meeting chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Andrey Razin was attended by heads of regional agricultural management bodies, industry unions and associations.
In 2022, according to preliminary data, the planting area under these crops will be increased by 2,5%. At the same time, the weather conditions are more favorable for them than last year.
To date, 139 thousand tons of potatoes have been dug out (+ 15% compared to 2021). According to the Potato Union, there is an increase in yield - at some enterprises it exceeds 60 tons / ha. The collection of vegetables amounted to 164,9 thousand tons, which corresponds to last year's level.
Currently, less than 2% of the area of potatoes and about 12% of vegetables have been harvested - the main stage of the campaign will begin in September. At the end of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia expects an increase in the gross harvest of "borsch set" vegetables in the organized sector. According to forecasts, potato production will be at least 6,8 million tons (against 6,6 million tons in 2021), and open ground vegetables - 5,2 million tons (against 5,1 million tons in 2021). This will fully meet the domestic needs of the country, including processing enterprises.
