In quarantine, vegetables from borscht set rose in price rapidly, and Ukrainian farmers predict that this trend will continue in the fall. So, own potatoes will be enough from June to August, and then the product will have to be purchased, and the price for it will be higher than for domestic. According to the portal Ukranews.com, this was stated by the Executive Director of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers Oksana Ruzhenkova.
Potatoes come to Ukraine from Egypt, Belarus and Russia, and domestic producers are lost amid this diversity. But this could have been avoided if farmers had at their disposal irrigation systems and storages for potatoes.
“This year, young potatoes were not planted unless on asphalt. June and a piece of July will be full of potatoes. But there may be questions further. Because the middle of late and late varieties are planted exactly as much as last year, ”said Ruzhenkova.
According to her, then import will resume. And importing foreign products will be several times cheaper than buying in bulk at domestic farmers.
Experts note that in Ukraine prices rise until they begin to import cheap imported goods into the country. But this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, world prices have risen, and expensive goods will pour in Ukraine, which will be 10-12% more expensive than Ukrainians are used to.
