Scientists of the Ural State Agrarian University (Ural State Agrarian University) have developed a new technology for growing domestic potato seeds, which takes into account the climate of the region and helps increase productivity.
The project was presented on Wednesday at the All-Russian Potato Field Day launched in the Sverdlovsk Region, dean of the faculty of agricultural technologies and land management of the Ural State Agrarian University, candidate of agricultural sciences Mikhail Karpukhin told reporters.
“Experiments on growing seed potatoes were carried out on the basis of our university and the Belorechensky enterprise, we got an interesting result, and today equipment is already arriving according to our recommendations in order to grow potatoes as needed for our zone. Our task is, in conjunction with institutions, to obtain the maximum result, that is, not only the varieties themselves, but also the cultivation technology in the fields of the Sverdlovsk region. We have received a healthy planting material, which gives a high increase in yield, including through the use of biotechnology, as it is virus-free, "Karpukhin said.
In addition, the researchers of the university will tell at the event about the results of studying and obtaining essential oils from medicinal plants. “Many medicinal herbs growing in the Middle Urals contain valuable essential oils that have excellent antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. These natural antibiotics may well replace synthetic ones and be used to treat people and animals, and in addition, they can be widely used in environmentally friendly agriculture, cosmetics and household chemicals. We set an ambitious goal - to check the entire medicinal flora of the Urals for the presence of oils and the level of its yield. We plan to receive the basic data in 3-4 years, and the whole work will take about ten years, ”Karpukhin specified.
Ural State Agrarian University is one of the largest universities in Russia that trains specialists for all sectors of the agro-industrial complex. The founder of the university is the RF Ministry of Agriculture. Within the framework of international cooperation, the university has more than 50 agreements with universities in Europe, Asia and the CIS countries.
